Shari's Surprise 50th!
My mom turned 50 and we surprised her big time with a 50th birthday party!!!
We had so much fun!!! We had so many family and friends come up from southern Alberta and her sister from Texas even flew in! And she had no idea so it was the best surprise ever!!!
I have never done a party this big so I was a little stressed but I had so much help decorating, cooking and setting up! It went so smoothly and it was exactly what I was hoping for.
If it looks a little familiar, I tried to use some of the same things for this party as Melanie's baby shower I threw just last month. They take a lot of work and planning so as much as I could simplify it I did!
I made SO many desserst but I feel like a good desert table is the whole centrepiece of the party!!
I forgot about the birthday cake haha so I woke up extra early the day of the party and whipped this out in about an hour…. not my best work but it actually looked pretty cute up there.
I made 50 sugar cookies!!! So I tried to do some simple ones that I could pump-out easily. Besides the black icing bleeding into the white a little bit I think they were pretty stinking cute (and yummy!!)
Tarts and Timbits!
Cupcakes and more Timbits! I found those cute rose gold baskets at the dollar store!!!
We rented out the "gym" at the institute building my dad works at and I think we made it look pretty awesome! WE had about 7 tables set up. Some had rose gold runners and some had white and blacked stripped ones. And I made napkins into bows for each seat!
Centrepieces! Each table had a different picture and I of course tried to find the funniest ones I could!
I got those cute lanterns at the dollar store as well and I got mason jars really cheap at an estate sale so I jazzed those up a bit for vases!
50 things we love about Shari! Everyone wrote on a card and hung it up on the wall. We ran out of room by the end of the night… we all love Shari so much!!
Photo booth!!
I ordered this cute frame on Etsy and glued it to a foam board. The photo props I got on Amazon!
Our simple table for all the food!! We had Cafe Rio salads and banana slush for dinner. YUM!
This girl…. My aunt Bobbi and her husband Randy SAVED me!!! I have never cooked for this many people before so they made me a shopping list and then showed up and took over the cooking part of the evening. I would have died without them!! I had a lot of family members show up to help me set up and throughout the whole evening. So if you are reading this… THANK YOU!!!!!
After Mom showed up (we yelled "Oh My Stars!" instead of "Surprise") we ate dinner while watching a slideshow my dad had put together. I wish I could post it on here, it was amazing. Full of hilarious pictures and video clips of mom. And then my brothers and I performed a song that my dad wrote, I will post it on Facebook! And then we just had an "open mic night" for funny Shari stories. It was hilarious… so many good stories I have never even heard before.
I am so thankful for all the help and to all the people who came to celebrate Mom. Everyone who knows her loves her so much. I was so glad we could celebrate her properly! She has had such an impact on so many people and she really is the best person I know!! And now her and dad are off toe Hawaii so she really gets to party this year!!! Happy 50th mom!
