Slytherin Party
I was SO excited to do a Harry Potter party again. I have a little Slytherin boy at my house and it was really fun to just focus on the one house.
It started with their Hogwarts acceptance letters! I love making invitations and I especially love making Harry Potter invitations because I can use my wax seal.
I always have a couple kids bring their Hogwarts Express tickets to the party and it makes me so happy :) Off to Platform 9 3/4!
While Slytherin is certainly not my pick... it does make for a fun theme :)
I ordered the backdrop and house banners from Wish.com a long time ago for my last Harry Potter party. I am always in shock how awesome the castle backdrop looks when I pull it out again considering I got it for only 10$!
Most everything else was made by me with my Cricut and some paper!
Slytherin's motto is "Do what is necessary"
Hedwig - made from poster board and a little paint!
The Spread!
I tried hard to come up with all new food ideas and I think I ended up only re-using one or two..
Basilisk Eggs
(pizza pockets)
Treacle Tarts
Nimbus 2001
(this is one I re-used, but I did change the name from the 2000 to 2001 model because that is the model the Malfoy's bought the Slytherin quidditch team in order to get Draco on as seeker)
Sorting Hats
(this is another repeat but they are just so dang cute and fun to use at the sorting ceremony! Filled with different coloured m&ms for each house)
Polyjuice Potion
(Sprite, lime sherbet and neon green food colouring)
Salazar Slytherin Veggie Snake
Goyle Grapes
After everyone arrived at the party we did our sorting ceremony! They all took turns wearing the hat and breaking open their cookie sorting hats. The twist this year was they were ALL Slytherin haha. It only took them a couple people to catch on but they still had fun breaking open their hats. Have a broom close by if you do this, it is messy!
After they were sorted, they were given their class ties and wands. Ties are made of felt and the wands are large wooden knitting needles decorated with hot glue, beads and paint!
I tried to make it dark, moody and Slytherin-y. I had all the place settings and candles already, I just made the letter place cards.
The Polyjuice Potion looked so cool in our skull glasses!
After the feast all the kids were given a schedule of their classes they were to attend that day. Starting with "Care of Magical Creatures" with Prof. Hagrid.
We played Pin-the-Tail on the Hippogriff. I added some of my favourite Malfoy quotes to the board.
After class they all got to adopt an owl to take home!
Next up was "Potion's Class" with Prof. Snape.
We split into 3 groups and made Elephant Toothpaste.
It was a huge hit! Here is how we did it:
- Pour 1/2 cup hydrogen peroxide in a tall, clean bottle. (glass or plastic) (the stronger the better, I used 40 volume from Sally's Beauty)
- Add 5 drops food colouring.
- Add one good squeeze of Dawn dish soap. (3 seconds)
- Swirl ingredients in bottle.
- In a separate cup mix 1/4 warm water with 1 TBS yeast and let sit 30 seconds.
- Swirl yeast and water to mix well - make sure it is smooth and not clumpy.
- Get your camera ready.
- Pour yeast mixture into the peroxide bottle and stand back!
I did not let the kids play with or touch the foam due to the high concentration of peroxide, but it would be fun for them to play with if you had gloves for everyone!
After Potion's Class it was "Muggle Studies" with Prof. Burbage.
They each got one of these papers and a pen - I had hidden gold stars on all these muggle items throughout my house and let them loose on a wild hide-and-seek hunt! They had a blast!
Next was "Charms Class" with Prof. Flitwick.
They all cast "Leviosa" with their wands and made the Sorting hat levitate... piñata time!
After the Piñata it was time for "Defence Against the Dark Arts" Class with Prof. Lupin.
We brought a Dementor into Hogwarts and learned to fight it off by pelting it with water balloons haha.
My husband was a good sport :)
After a long day of classes the kids were ready to have a relaxing trip to Hogsmeade.
They were all given their treat bags so they could go shopping at Honeydukes!!
I did Honeydukes last party as well, but I loved it so much so just wanted to do it bigger and better this time! There was one of everything for each kid and they had such a fun time going "shopping"
Sherbet Lemon & Dragon Eggs
(lemon cakes from Costco and Kinder Eggs wrapped in gold foil)
Chocolate Bars in case of Dementor Attack
(good luck potion)
Sugar Quills
Sugar Mice
I got so excited with I saw Sugar Mice in our Honeydukes book because my mother-in-law makes these adorable mice every Christmas that my kids love so any excuse to make them! They are chocolate dipped maraschino cherries, kisses and almonds for the ears)
Berttie Bott's Every Flavoured Beans & Pumpkin Pasties
I bough the molds for these last party and I still absolutely love them, who knew frogs could be so cute!

Chocolate Dipped Twizzlers Pull & Peel
Golden Snitches
last but certainly not least, I think these are my all-time favourite. Ferrero Roche chocolates and I found this printable for the wings on Etsy! I love making these.
After shopping it was cake and butter beer, presents and then home time!
It was a huge success and I can't wait for my next Harry Potter party :)
